Since the release of the 4.2 patch, we’ve been wanting to do some kind of battle with the Generous Gemcrafters. The idea here is to take advantage of the Generous Gemcrafters and the way to do that is with a collection of spells. Cards like Pale Cascade and Guiding Touch are basically free cards since they have the cycle component attached to them. Cards like Three Sisters count as two spells in one. You play the front half that generates an additional spell, and you play the second half that should be two plus one plus ones going into your hand while still getting a pretty good spell along the way.

The downside to this strategy is the Generous Gemcrafter itself. For the Generous Gemcrafter to be working in these situations, you need to have something on board that’s threatening enough to your opponent that the Generous Gemcrafter still just gets to hang out. You also need a card in hand that you’re going to be depositing these bonuses on to.

So, we’ve moved away from the spells-based aspect and are instead focusing on units that generate spells. We’ve included the Gift Giver, the Mountain Goat, and the Lunari Cultist. We need a little bit of help for these units to be good, so we’ve included a full set of equipment with the three Darkin Spears and the three Darkin Lodestones. This should give us some opportunities to make those units a little bit more relevant in the early game so our mid game can be devoted to powering up with the Generous Gemcrafters.

We’ve also included the Unforgiven Cold as a better Frostbite kind of spell than the Harsh Winds. This gives us a fairly interesting interactivity package. If we don’t need the interactivity, then we can still take advantage of all those gems that we’ve been generating. We have Zoe up in the champion space and the Sparklefly, which are all good targets for the gems that can punch in the extra damage and hopefully give us a little bit of double value out of those friends.

We also have a lot of really nice combos with the Generous Gemcrafter. If you’re loading up something like Revna with a bunch of stats in hand, she is supremely happy to come down as a 5|5 or a 6|6. You usually don’t get a lot of stats out of your first Revna, but you can if the Generous Gemcrafter is involved. We also have the big bro package of the Udyr Kayle, which are fantastic units to be dropping those stats on. Udyr coming through as a gigantic overwhelm unit or Kayle helping to level up her empowered ability.

So, that’s the deck we’re going to be doing battle with today.
