Today, we’ll be exploring the new space of Eternal, taking advantage of its fresh cards and thrilling gameplay. Join us as we unveil the formidable Balen, test his abilities, and discover strategies to dominate your opponents.
Exploring Balin’s Abilities:
Balen the Formidable is our latest addition to the powerful Poppy Taric Galio deck. When he attacks, he boosts all your formidable allies by +0/+1. Drawing inspiration from the recent Siren Song format, where one-cost units gained +1/+1, we must carefully analyze these “everywhere” cards and their impact on the game. My initial impression is that Balen falls just short of being truly intriguing. To maximize the number of formidables in our deck, should we include cards like Petricite Hound? And do we risk playing Balen on his own without drawing the other combos?
Crafting a Powerful Deck:
In my practice games, I found Balen’s individual power as a five-power attacker reasonably effective. However, combining him with other combos is what really elevates his potential. Two spaces felt most fitting for a Balen deck: Freljord or a Poppy Taric shell. In Freljord, we pursue stance swaps to secure a Petrocite Broadwing with +0/+2 and regenerate, creating a resilient, dominant attacker. Alternatively, the Poppy Taric style offers an interesting fit. As we attack more with Balen the Benevolent, his ability activates, making him progressively stronger throughout the game.
Strategy in the Poppy Taric Style:
Poppy Taric decks are centered on early board control using Fleet Feather Tracker, Petrocite Broadwing, and boosting style units. This setup helps keep your opponent’s smaller units at bay. Simultaneously, we build a colossal board, unleashing powerful unit boosters like Poppy or Mountain Sojourners. Balen complements this strategy beautifully, enhancing Petrocite Broadwings, Hounds, Chargers, and even Galios present in our deck.
Unlocking Hidden Potentials:
Let’s not forget the rally effects with Taric. When a spell is cast on him, it is copied onto his supported unit, allowing for devastating combos. For example, casting a Golden Aegis on Tarik enables multiple rallies, giving us the opportunity to attack two or even three times in a turn. With each attack, we harness the scaling bonuses from attackers like Balen and Poppy, overwhelming our opponents and securing victory.
Conclusion:
By incorporating Balen the Benevolent into the Poppy Taric Galio deck, we unlocked new possibilities and strategies. Whether you choose to explore the Freljord or Poppy Taric style, or take advantage of Taric’s rally effects, this optimized deck will help you conquer the game.
