Today I’m going to be playing in a Champions Unlimited Gauntlet. I was really excited to try out the new cards, and I decided to go with a Samira Draven Sion deck. I think the combo of Samira and Draven is pretty powerful and interesting. Samira’s generates Flairs that can be used to either deal damage to the face or to make a unit a challenger. Draven is a great with challenger, but also has the potential to discard excess Flairs to Spinning Axe.
One of the things I noticed with Samira is that people often just cast the token so they don’t lose it. But with Draven, we have the option to convert the token into combat damage instead of direct damage to the face. I thought this was a great selection of synergies between the two cards and I wanted to try it out.
The tricky part was that I didn’t know if the event was Standard only or Eternal. I couldn’t tell from the game client, so I just had to take a chance and join the Gauntlet. Fortunately, it was legal and I was able to give it a go.
The deck is fairly straightforward. We have a high-powered collection of early game units, a discard package, and a burn package to close out the game. We usually play a unit on turn one and two, and then on turn three we play our last unit, ideally a Draven. Then we just start throwing burn at the opponent’s face. I love this kind of deck and I’m excited to see how it goes. Wish me luck!
