Welcome to today’s blog post where we’ll be discussing a Singleton Gauntlet battle in the video game Legends of Runeterra. In this post, we’ll focus on the strategy and key mechanics of using Volibear as our main champion. Let’s dive into the details:
- The main focus of using Volibear is not just about his individual strength, but rather the sigil mechanics that come with him, specifically the Sigils of the Storm.
- To maximize the potential of Volibear, we can utilize cards like Ronde, which may not be strong in combat but can benefit from the sigil mechanic. One way to make the most out of Ronde is by using concurrent timelines, allowing us to play Ronde, collect sigils, and then swap him out for another unit.
- The deck we’re using has three different pillars for success:
- Value units: This includes cards like Aloof Travelers and Revna, providing standard value draw options.
- Improvised mechanics: Similar to the Eternal card game, we have cards like Innovative Blacksmith that can morph into bigger units while still keeping their equipment.
- Explorers package: This is particularly useful in the Singleton format, as it allows us to counter powerful landmarks, equipment, and Aatrox decks. Additionally, having access to cards like Quicksand and Pursuit of Perfection can give us an advantage in combat.
- Since we can only include one copy of each card in the Singleton format, we need ways to find our crucial cards. Here, the predict mechanic comes in handy, with around five predict cards in the deck. Cards such as The Forsaken, Aspiring Chronomancers, and Time Tricks help us dig for the concurrent timelines.
- While it would be ideal to get the concurrent timelines early in the game, it’s not critical. Getting it by turn four or five can still be beneficial.
- The deck also includes a ramp strategy, with the Sigil of the Storm package and the managem package. Cards like Wild Mysticism, Catalysts of Aeons, and Winter’s Touch help us manage our resources effectively.
- To counter the prevalence of PnZ-heavy decks, we’ve tailored our removal options accordingly. Pursuit of Perfection can generate a powerful 30/30 unit, so we need ways to deal with it permanently. Cards like Three Sisters and Buried in Ice allow us to remove the unit, while Harsh Winds provides temporary protection.
- Dealing four damage to specific units is essential in this format. Cards like Thermogenic Beam, Rocket Barrage, and Howling Gale give us various options to meet this requirement. Units like Victor, Seraphine, and Janna are common targets.
- Finally, the deck includes some high-powered cards that tie back to the predict package. Having one powerful card stick to the board often determines the winner in Singleton games. Cards like Feel the Rush and Warmother’s Call ensure we have extra strong options that are difficult for opponents to handle.
That concludes our overview of the deck and strategy involved in utilizing Volibear’s sigil mechanics in Legends of Runeterra. Good luck with your battles in the Gauntlet!
