Today, we’re diving into the intricacies of the Jax Ornn deck, a fan-favorite among our recent followers. This deck has proven its mettle in the Eternal Runeterra open a few weeks ago, where we took it to the top eight of the event.
The Jax Ornn deck is a robust choice for standard play, despite losing out on elements like Hearthblood Mender. The core of the deck remains intact, making it a formidable choice. This deck has two significant advantages in the current format, which is replete with silences.
Firstly, equipment serves as an excellent counter-strategy to silences. The current format encourages the use of Siren Song to generate husks on the board, which are then consumed by a unit to create a mega unit. Silences are then used to reduce this mega unit to a regular unit, making it easier to combat. However, silences do not affect equipment. So, if a unit has a +5/+4 from an equipment, silencing it won’t change its stat line. This makes equipment a powerful tool in the current format, especially against popular decks that rely on Mount Targon for silences and Sunburst.
Secondly, Bellows Breath is another potent tool in the Jax Ornn deck. It works well against go-wide strategies, which are popular in the current format. For instance, if your opponent has played a Siren’s Song or Reaver’s Row, Bellows Breath can eliminate all their units. It’s also effective against decks that counter the Siren Song strategy, like the Norra decks.
In terms of card choices, Ruthless Raider is a personal favorite. It provides overwhelm in the late game and has tough, which is useful against Nora-based removal. To further enhance the overwhelm, we also use the Ice Vale Cultist. It’s a great way to give out overwhelms in the late game and allows us to punch in if we have multiple overwhelm units on the board.
We also include two copies of Three Sisters and The Unforgiven Cold in our deck. These cards are our answer to dealing with giant units like Zolani in the format. They allow us to frostbite them down to zero attack or potentially entomb them.
However, we’re not using combat tricks like Inner Beast in this deck. Given the current meta, Inner Beast isn’t as effective, especially when you’re trying to put overwhelm onto a unit that could get silenced.
In conclusion, the Jax Ornn deck is a strong choice in the current format, with its focus on equipment and Bellows Breath. It’s a deck that requires strategic play and understanding of the game’s mechanics. So, gear up and get ready to dive into battle with the Jax Ornn deck!
