Today we’re going to be doing battle in the Runeterra Open. I’m really excited about this tournament and the fact that it has some real merit and reasons to be playing in it. One of the things that I think is quite interesting about the Runeterra Open is that if you finish off the event at five and four wins, you still get additional trophies for just coming in and playing. This is great for the casual crowd, those just getting their feet wet in the competitive scene, and even those near the top of the ranks.
My idea with this is that I assume that every single match we play, every single opponent is going to have a Samira deck. So, we’re wanting to tune our decks a little bit to be good against Samira. We’re going to ban Deep, Ashe LeBlanc, and then the less painful but still good against us style decks like Karma Sett. We’re also tuning our decks to be good against Leona.
We’re playing Samira Fizz, Udyr Jarvan, and Leona Garen. Samira Fizz is an OTK style deck that tends to have pretty decent success against the Samira decks of the world. Udyr Jarvan has blocking Badger Bears and early game Challengers to come in and try and take them down. Leona Garen has the Solari Sun Forger since I intend to play against Samira Fizz and having that life gain can be monumentally problematic for the opponent.
At the end of the day, I think it’s a high risk, high reward strategy. We’re hoping to ban Samira and play the Fizz Samira matches rather than play against Karma Set all day. I’m confident that our lineup will give us the best chance of success in this tournament. Wish us luck!
