Today we’re doing battle with Leona Aurelion Sol. This deck has some pretty low expectations, with an overall win rate under 40%, no good matchups, and all bad matchups with win rates under 30%. But I’m getting ready for the upcoming Runeterra Open, and I’m hoping this deck will give me an edge.

At the Mastering Runetera Open, Samira was the top deck, and I’m expecting the most common version to be Samira Leona. I’m taking a page from the Sunburn deck of a few seasons ago, which was Leona paired with Katarina. That deck was weak against slower Aphelios and Aurelion Sol versions, and I’m hoping this slower version will do the same.

The core of the deck is the same as any Leona deck: Leona herself, the Solari package, Sun Guardian, and Rahvun. But I’m branching away from the more aggressive One Drops and instead focusing on being a little slower. I’m hoping cards like Solari Sunforger will give me the time I need to ramp up to Eclipse Dragon and Aurelion Sol. I’m also playing Demacia to give me early game interactivity with Single Combat and Fleet Feather Tracker.

The last interesting thing about this deck is the use of Hush. This is important against Fizz, as it can silence their elusiveness. It can also be used to reduce the size of a big Sun Guardian. Dragon’s Clutch can be used to draw both Eclipse Dragon and Aurelion Sol, or to give your dragons Overwhelm to punch through and deal the finishing blow.

So that’s the deck I’m doing battle with today. Let’s see if I can win 33-40% of my games!
